A Country Looks Forward

These pictures are not meant to be standard CIP (Children in Poverty) pictures; rather I was looking into the faces of a new generation in Bangladesh, a hopeful one.

The boy in blue rode on one of my bike rides with me. He is in class 5l in Modonpur. His pride grew as he gave me a tour of his school.

Her father requested that I take a chobe (picture).

Playing in the Mud

Even good boys get dirty sometimes...
Our mud pit. Here we mixed the clay, rice hay, and water that would later be molded into a parapet in our pavilion.
Our laborers. Also the land owners. These men are extremely strong; in muscle and will.
At midday we took rest with our tiffin, a nap, and a well needed liter of oral saline.
In addition to the rice straw, our feet felt the pain of snail shells and cow...fecal matter.

Ami Noka Bhara Korte Chai. Bhara koto?

He helped me secure a boat. I didn't know he was going to steal it.
Carefree Cooling
A great crew. So what we never exchanged words.

it's all in the details

I noticed that Bangladesh has a lot more to offer when you take a closer look...

Bangladeshi barbed wire...unfortunately not just for birds. shards of glass embedded in concrete keep intruders from private property

a bamboo bench at a tea stall in Hakimpur shows wear from hundreds of manly conversations

anise is the mint at the end of a meal

the fruit we eat but the leaves keep us dry when it rains

the sun sheds its light on the wheel of a vangari during sunset

Devastating Cyclone Aila

Quite the bon voyage before our Sundarban adventure.
A Royal Bengal Tiger pelt dries on the veranda amidst a sea of fishing boats. This tiger killed three villagers a week before and forestry officers failed to scare it back into the jungle.
A father and daughter accepted an invitation to have their picture taken.
Ghost town.

Introducing a window to my mind: Reader Beware!

I don't like writing. I don't like reading either. Probably anyone who knows me could tell you that. So that's why I've chosen not to. I've created this blog to forecast my thoughts and feelings during my very unique summer internship in Jessore, Bangladesh. But you won't find much in the way of text here. This is partly because I don't have the patience to sit down and formulate well written posts. But for the most part, what I am experiencing now, I don't think I could not express in words. Instead I am going to create an image gallery providing my readers with a glimpse of Bangladesh the way I see it. If necessary, I will explain the image with a caption below. And that's about it. Well, I hope everyone enjoys this.
